Just about everyone wants to age gracefully and in good health. A team of European researchers is betting that vitamin D, omega-3s and exercise may be the best way to accomplish this.
Researchers from the University of Zurich are conducting what is being dubbed the DO-HEALTH trial. The team will track the well-being of more than 2,000 adults over the next three years to find out if an intervention focusing on three aspects of diet and exercise can support the health of individuals as they grow older.
The trial intends to measure the effects of vitamin D, omega-3s and exercise on brain health and heart health. The study comes at an important time, as the worldwide population is becoming older. This could represent a significant health problem if nothing is done to support the health of individuals as they age.
The team has indicated that it believes supplementing these two nutrients and helping individuals get more exercise will be a cost-effective way to support the well-being of an aging population, enabling people to live healthier lives while reducing the burden on the healthcare system.
