Moderate exercise is effective for controlling chocolate consumption

Dark chocolate may be an excellent source of numerous antioxidants, but overindulging in the sweet may lead to significant weight gain and a number of health problems associated with obesity. So how can individuals control their urge to overeat this sweet?

A new report shows that 15 minutes of moderate exercise significantly reduces individuals' urges to consume chocolate during their workday. The findings could have important implications for preventing mindless overindulgence at the office.

For the study, a team of researchers from the University of Exeter had 78 participants who described themselves as regular chocolate eaters simulate a normal workday. During this time they were provided a bowl of chocolate. Prior to the trial, half the group was asked to walk on a treadmill for 15 minutes.

The results showed that those who walked before starting their simulated workday consumed half as much chocolate as their counterparts in the study.

Moderate consumption of dark chocolate is an excellent way to get high levels of antioxidants that are important for heart health. However, exercise may help to ensure that individuals' nutritious indulgence does not turn into a counterproductive habit.
