Knowing what’s in a vitamin is key

All multivitamins are not created equal. While they all contain healthy amounts of vital nutrients, some may contain either more or less than certain individuals need. In order to ensure consumers getting appropriate amounts, they should be sure to understand their nutritional needs and read all labeling.

This is the advice of celebrity health expert Dr. Oz. He told eMax Health that men and women and people in different age groups all have different nutritional needs. Therefore, the same multivitamin may not be appropriate for everyone.

He said that people should be aware of what their body needs and make sure that nutritional supplement they are considering purchasing has these vitamins and minerals. Reading the labels to be confident of what is in a supplement is critical.

"One of the biggest mistakes we make is that we think that just because it says 'multi-vitamin' that they are all created equal," Oz told the news source. "And the real challenge for us to figure out is – do we need them, and which ones of those specific vitamins should be in each one."

Most people may benefit from vitamin D supplements, as the Office of Dietary Supplements says the nutrient is found in few natural foods.
