Vitamin D shown to support men’s health

Vitamin D may help support men's health and sexual function, according to a new study published in the European Journal of Endocrinology.

Researchers from Medical University Graz in Austria wrote that vitamin D has been shown to be active in a number of areas in the male reproductive system. However, less is known about the role this nutrient plays in these organs.

The team examined findings from previous studies that looked at the effects of vitamin D in the male reproductive system. The results of the majority of the investigations showed that the nutrient is active in many functions of this area of health and is key to supporting it.

Men who are concerned about supporting their reproductive health should consider taking nutritional supplements containing vitamin D, the researchers said.

There are also a number of good food sources of the nutrient, including fish, mushrooms and fortified products like milk and orange juice. Increasing consumption of these foods and beverages or taking supplements may be a powerful way for men to support their health.
